Parenthood

It takes one mum to know another mum. It takes one parent to know another parent. You might say you understand, but actually you don't. I'm not going to tell you, you don't actually understand, because you will only learn this fact when you are a mum/parent.

Splash splash!

Took leave with hubs to run errands the entire day, and since we had some daylight left with the weather doing good, we went for our first swim with emma!!

She definitely enjoyed herself very much, giggling a lot. We did foresee she'll love it since she spend a great deal playing with water during bath time.


We went to hubs school and had the luxury of having the entire baby pool to ourselves!!


Had a wonderful water playing session and we'll be back soon!!! (She was so tired after that, had a very early night, and the parents get more quiet time. Win-win!)

Mmm.... its my chillax day today!

Miscellaneous

An imp came along last night and finally cleaned up my blog template! Same same. But different different. The previous template was done eons ago, and the template was so messy, that I couldn't do much about it (done by the same imp). Finally, yesterday night i went to bed, and miraculously its now more updated! *phew* Finally no more irritating mobile version whenever I use my phone/ipad to view. But it still need a puny bit more of cleaning up.. (the header is not aligned.....)

I tried to link instagram here, but realise i can only add an icon, and not have a direct feed instead which I would prefer. So I guess i'll keep them separate. The trying to maintain a twitter account was a failure, i shut it down one week after i set it up. lol. But the instagram is still going strong. So, yeah to instagram!

I've decided that the previous last post will be the end of our Hong Kong trip post. Cause I'm lazy. lol. The rest of the few days were we din't do much interesting things. So. Thats it.

Now looking forward to my leave that will start somewhen next week till Chinese New Year, and then greatest highlight of the first half of the year would be first Chinese New Year with Ems! Can't wait!!!!

Today we had our brunch at this little place called Simply Bread. We were too busy keeping em's hands off the dishes and table, that we dint take any pics of the food.

While i was busy camwhoring with ems. Hubs took my favourite picture of the day!


I can't decide whether i like myself more in the picture or ems expression. Haha. We're both natural!

We can stare at her all day long. Such a cutie pie is all ours. Just both of us to share. Nobody else. Wonderful.


He always ask me, how can she look so cute (he probably ask this every week). And i always reply: Cause she looks like me!

We went ikea after dinner with a grumpy ems. Wasn't too happy, cause we were eating into her sleeping time.

Where the heart is stronger than the mind (and pocket)

I make it a point not to get too expensive clothes, cause babies simply outgrow their clothes too quickly. Emma's newborn clothes barely lasted a few days, luckily they were hand me downs. Those clothes that we got for her mostly from US are usually less than $10, and her other clothes i try to keep under $15 max. Her chinese new year outfit i got online was $20, and i thought thats my limit.

Obviously my limit is quite flexible. Ive got this dress in my mind for the entire week. And ive decided, hack it. When in doubt, just buy. (Quote from my uni friend)

Haloo Saturday!

Woke up at 5.30am and headed out for a morning run at 6am. Its been a long while since we last run. Ems woke up with us and dint wana continue sleeping in the stroller (she KO after reaching home).


She looked happy enjoying the cool breeze and seeing the headlights of other cyclist running past.


Busy day ahead. Hubs doing the laundry now, after that we'll go hdb branch to run some errands, then for brunch. And ill have my facial at 3!

Fruitful lunch!

At lightning speed, there was sale at Metro Paragon, so rushed there during lunch to get my night moisturiser, facial wash, foundation refill and emma's toiletries (there was a 20%+10% disc). While waiting for my collegue, went to get Ems some new books!





This morning, 6:30am, she punished me by reading Humpty Dumpty 5 times.

Humpty dumpty sat on a wall.
Humpty dumpty had a great fall.
All the kings horses.
And all the kings men.
Couldnt put humpty together again.

In 5 different (trying to sound) exciting tones.

Addicted!

Guilty as charged, Ive been overspending on blogshops (actually jus one blogshop). They've got dresses i love, and so far maybe only out of every 10 piece only 1 piece i dont like cause of the material. The rest were perfecto!

No more night feeds?

For 3 nights, ems did not take her night feed. She did wake up, gave her the pacifier, she din't cry for milk and went back to sleep till morning.

One small step for us, one big step for her. YEAH!

Coz ill just miss her tooo much

I need to work late next week, which means i might only see Ems in asleep mode. So shes sleeping with us tonight.

Money does not make a man

The quote appeared in todays's papers, though it meant differently from what it meant to me.

Very frequently (maybe once a month), i would ask hubs whether we are not saving enought. I think its quite obvious from our holiday plans. We use to think, ok, we travel more (past few years), cause once the baby is out, we'll be tied and can't really travel much (thats what everyone else told us). Those were the days where we weren't hesistant to go for 3-weeks trips to Japan, States.

Post-baby. Things looks the same, we din't see why we can't go on holidays. One month after Emma came, we went Hawaii, then packed Emma and went Hong Kong, and now we're going Perth. Of cause we can't go on 3 weeks trips (cause people might think we're relocating with the amount of luggages). And since we don't fancy much of Asia (excluding Japan, we LOVE japan, just not ideal for Emma), we have to go further places, which means it will costs us more.

Back to my point. With our rate of spending (plus my occassional bags purchases), i asked hubs whether we're saving enough. Exactly how much is enough? Top on our priority list,

1) If Emma needs an overseas education in future, we need to make sure we have enough for that. Sg education system is good enough, but you know, with not very smart parents like us, we probably don't have much smart genes to spare. So we got that covered.

2) If both of us die, Emma needs to have enough for her next 21 years. We've got that covered. (Of cause she can't be spending money like nobodys business.)

3) Enough savings to last us in time of emergency. We've got that covered. And we even had a Plan B. Kill the other party *secretly*, so can claim insurance, and can get the house without paying for the balance of the mortgage.

KIDDING!!!!!!!

People nowadays likes to take things out of the internet very seriously, so i repeat again. KIDDINGGG!

Back to 'Money does not make a man'. Would we be happier if we now have a million in our bank account if,

- we do not have a car
- we eat home everyday
- we dont travel
- we stay in a 2 room rather than our current executive hdb
- i did not wan a room as my wardrobe (cause we had to build a much bigger wardrobe.)
- i dont buy my bags
- theres no Emma in our lives

If we could turn back time and choose again, we would probably make the same choices all over again. Last week, there was an article, can money buy happiness. In this case, yes. Especially the memories we have on every single trip was memorable. We looked through the albums over and over again now and then.

So, we're not cash rich, but we are very happy! (Wow, sounds like what poor people would say. Sobs. Now i sound like im consoling myself.)

If i had i a choice. I want to be rich. Haha

I'm not too sure how much ems like this idea (shes 9 months, i doubt she cares whats she wearing as long as she gets her milk), but i've got us matchy matchy tops for Chinese New Year!

Happy 9 months!

We have been trying to affirm Emma's preference for books over toys. In her room, these 2 are place side by side within her reach (since she can crawl freely towards wat she wans), and without fail she would definately go for the books and start flipping through.


I try not to encourage reading in the car so that it doesn't spoil her eyes. But its too tempting.. Coz i can just really relax at my own seat..


And we spend our weekend the same as others except we met up with frens for brunch which was great!

We tried to take a decent pic of her with the cake, but all of it turn out like shes gona grab it anytime.


And HAPPY 9 MONTHS! Can't wait to celebrate our first Chinese New Year! (Like finally! We have a revenue generating asset after in a loss making position for the past 6 years. Though we're not expecting to be profiting, but at least can recoup a bit la.)

Baby smells~

Do you know you can get high smelling babies?

I know i can. Emma smells really good (except her potent poos).

Bed upgraded!

Recently, we upgraded Ems to a single bed (thats why we sold the cot). Its been on our mind to change her to a bigger bed, cause she kick and turn so much when shes sleeping and get stuck into weird positions that we thought it'll be better if we get her a bigger one so she can have more space. And also, the cot matteress (no matter which one you upgrade to) is never as comfy as our normal matteress. So. *TADA!*


We accidentally came across this bedframe while shopping for pillows. This is the exact same one we are looking for! We wanted a single frame, but not those normal kind, cause when she knows how to walk, we dowan her wandering around the house while we are sleeping. This is actually a bigger version of a cot. We're still using the cot bumper.


Did some mini modification to make it more safe. And we change the layout of the cupboard as well. Now she can reach for her own toys and books (and also pull out all of the other stuff that wasn't meant to be her toys).


Now we're still in the trial stage of her room, before we decide to plant some deco items on the walls and make it feels more like a room. Bare walls does feel cold.

And i guess she waking up much lesser at night, means shes more comfy?

Nap time is very important

I used to frown at parent-friends/collegues/people who would reject outings or meetups because it was their baby scheduled nap time. I never understood what it meant until now. I used to think what you mean by scheduled nap time! They sleep on the go, anywhere, everywhere! Plonk them on a stroller and 'GONG'! knock out!

Post-emma, ive gained enlightenment. Emma has sunday class at 3pm, so our priority was she has to get enough rest before that so that she wouldn't be grumpy and grouchy. She usually wakes up at 7, so her first nap is very important, cause thats her only nap before class. She starts her nap at 10am, and would normally sleep till 1.30pm waking up for lunch and just in time to leave for class! Only at home where its quiet, with her favourite bolster and bed she can nap for 3hrs straight in deep sleep mode. Deep sleep is important. But if in stroller, her naps would only be broken up one hour here one hour there, all messed up.

So, our first time giving this reason, Emma needs to nap. So we are not going.

Holidays more holidays!

Now that we're done on the Perth air tickets, theres not much planning we need to do except to just wait for the day. But we really need to have a destination for our September trip. Over the days we have considered and strike out

Maldives


Cause one of the conditions if we were to go Maldives is, we will stay in a water villa. Another condition of our trip is, we will bring Emma. When we bring her 八字 to calculate her name when she was born, we were told to avoid water masses until she's 5, this is obviously water mass, so why risk it? (Same reason for Japan, no reason to risk bringing her even though all the radiation some might say its just a scare)

I'm not too sure how many stairs there are, we probably dowana risk end up carrying her and stroller all the way.

New Zealand


It seems like a entire road trip with 5-6 hours each stretch, Emma will definately not be so happy.

Mm i guess we havent strike this out yet. It seems ideal, cause i can set the main city as base and make day trips out. But aussie dollar seems not very cheap?

Greece





Mm considering too, cause we've only been to Athens and Santorini, and we dont mind going to other island like Rohdes, Mykonos. Its resort kind, which is what i kinda want for Sept trip. But not too sure bout the situation in Athens, dowana go there and get killed/ mugged/ robbed.

New York


Of cause, if everything fails, we'll stick to NY, just that its a bit boring.. Cause its our third US trip in consecutive years. But it seems like a lot of reason to head here. We can easily base in city and make day trips out. Rent a car. Low dollar. Stroller friendly. But we might get killed by random shooting guns though.

Post Emma review

Some say, you don't have a life after you get married. Others say, you don't have a life after you have kids. I would say, its just a different kind of life. Married and courtship to me makes no difference, so its the same kind of life. But post-emma, life has definately changed for us.

We used to watch weekly movies, now, we watch movies... On our ipad. But, seriously i wouldnt call this a 'sacrifice'. We would very much rather spend time as a family. Our many attempts to leave ems with my parents failed, and we ended up picking her back after our date, so we've stopped attempting that, and decided she'll just blend into our life doing what we do together!

Weekends are terrific! We used to just go shopping, watch movies, walk around and go home. Now we have her to keep us entertained and make us laugh while doing the same stuff. Hubs always ask why is she so cute, and my reply is always the same, cause she looks like me. Today hubs asked, whether she's the most perfect daughter. The answer was obvious. We must have accumulate a lot of karma from our previous life.

Indeed our coupletime have came to a halt, we're doing more babytalk. But i believe we can catch up more on couple time when Emma doesnt wana spend as much time with us when she grows up. (I think our couple time now is a mere 45 minutes daily. Every morning when hubs send me to work, and every night after hubs coax Emma to sleep.)

So, we are bringing her to every overseas trip! We just got our Perth tickets booked! We're going on the 4 to 9 of April, back in time to celebrate her birthday!

Her birthday! We're celebrating her birthday on the 14 April, Sunday at Brewerks! (Her actual day is 19, which falls on a Friday)

September! I did just post on fb that we're planning a New York trip, but Maldives on our mind too. So, we'll see.
